Art is not a straight line.
I began painting and exhibiting professionally in the late 1990's with Hearts of Stone, contemporary fresco painting on broken stone and tile. Hearts of Stone incorporated hearts into the tiles, broken, mended, amended and colored to reflect the beauty of life and the painting, these works included original poetry. By early 2001 I began working with other images I saw in the stone, determined by the stones surface, and the cracks and breaks I gave them. I coined the phrase, contemporary frescoes for these works, though it is a bit of a misnomer, and 'rorschart' for the way I determined the subject matter.
Contemporary frescoes have garnered numerous awards and have been exhibited internationally in, galleries and museums. I currently have work exhibited in public and private venues, including in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Catholic Art and History and the Culture Inside Gallery in Luxembourg.
The breaking of the stone, set up a natural cubist canvas. As I progressed with art, my stone work became more abstract, leading away from the image itself and focusing more on the tactile, rhythm and colorations of the stone painting. This led me to break from the stone completely and work on large scale canvas using another gestural technique (thrown and splashed instead of beaten with a hammer), and an abstract impressionist style.
Along with being a professional artist, I am also a published poet, lecturer, workshop leader, teacher and fine artist. My other works can be viewed at:
